The excursion to Ernstbrunn in May 1993 began with a brisk run from Wien Nord to Hohenau where 52.7612 ran round our train. We then followed the single line via Dobermannsdorf and Mistelbach Lokalbahnhof to Ernstbrunn; we were treated to run-past scenes at each location. In the afternoon we continued along the line back to Wien enjoying a final display of Class 52 power at Würnitz Hetzmannsdorf.

The trip to the Retz wine festival has become a regular event in the ÖBB’s excursion calendar. In September 1994 we travelled from Wien Nord via Mistelbach and Laa a/d Thaya (where unfortunately our steam engine was withdrawn). A Class 2143 took us the remainder of the way to the festival where the flowing wine left us content.

An extra treat during a visit to the 1994 Sigmundsherberg open day was a short run behind Brenner & Brenner’s Class 77.250 to Haugsdorf and back. This excursion had the atmosphere of the scheduled services of the past when the Class 77s bore the brunt of passenger services out of Vienna.

While returning from the visit to Sigmundsherberg we were fortunate to find Class 93.1420 heading south from Zwettl. We enjoyed a brisk car chase and captured several lineside shots of the 93 at work.
